Tallinn Old Town Walking Tour
The tour starts from the Nordic Hotel Forum on Viru Square, which is also Tallinn's 0 point. This is where the calculation of distances starts in Estonia and to major centers around Estonia - St. Petersburg, Riga, Helsinki, Stockholm.
We talk about the Rotermann quarter, where the Nordic Hotel Forum is located, a former industrial area now gentrified and what exciting things can be found there (Estonian Design House, Kalev candy store, shops, good restaurants and cafes).
We explore Tallinn’s medieval Old Town, entering through the Viru Gates. Along Müürivahe Street and the Katariina Passage, the guide shares stories of the Dominican monastery and highlights local artisan workshops.
At Town Hall Square, we see the Gothic Town Hall and the 600-year-old Raeapteek pharmacy, discussing Hanseatic trade and its parallels with today’s EU. Nearby, we pass medieval merchant houses, the Olde Hansa warehouse, and authentic Estonian handicraft shops.
The walk continues up Long Leg Street to Toompea Hill, where Estonia’s Parliament is located. Here we reflect on historical power relations between church and state, and enjoy panoramic views from the upper town.
We descend via Short Leg Street and return to the hotel through the charming Old Town streets.
Living History at the Estonian Open Air Musem
The tour starts from the Nordic Hotel Forum on Viru Square by bus.
Take a fascinating journey back in time to the Estonia of old by touring this tranquil, forested park where the nation’s rural past comes to life. Located just outside central Tallinn, the Estonian Open Air Museum is a collection of nearly 80 historical buildings dating from the late 1600s to the early 1900s, all relocated here from various regions of the country and arranged in village/farm fashion. Among these architectural gems are thatched-roofed farmhouses, wind and water mills, a 17th-century church, a fire station, an inn and a schoolhouse.
On your tour you can watch the museum guides demonstrate farm and household activities, take a horse and carriage ride, buy some high quality Estonian handicrafts and enjoy a traditional Estonian meal at the inn. The museum has often been used by conferences as a venue for holding ethnic-themed events such as traditional, Estonian-style dinner parties, colourful folk dance performances and the like.
Tour of KUMU Art Museum
The tour starts from the Nordic Hotel Forum on Viru Square by bus.
KUMU (Kunstimuuseum), the Art Museum of Estonia, is the country’s premier art museum and one of the largest in Northern Europe. Located in Kadriorg Park, KUMU showcases Estonian art from the 18th century to contemporary works, offering a deep dive into the nation’s cultural and artistic heritage.
